Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge
San Diego County Chapter
THE CONFERENCE: Approximately eighteen high school juniors from San Diego city and county high schools will be selected and provided with a partial scholarship to participate in the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge Youth Freedom and Leadership Conference. Students will spend four unforgettable days in historic Valley Forge and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, hearing motivational speakers and participating in leadership development activities. Then it is off to an exciting three-day visit to Washington, D.C., where they will be given the opportunity to meet California representatives and visit the Nation's Capitol.

April 5 - 11, 2018

County High School Juniors. Applications should include: (1) Freedoms Foundation
Application; (2) Most recent high school transcript; (3) Two signatures of
endorsement from non-relatives (one school person required); (4) One page
resume of activities; and (5) Personal statement. All applicants will be considered.
Blank applications may be reproduced if needed. Applications
must be received by November 18, 2017.
INTERVIEWS: Applicants will be contacted by school liaison and interviewed on their high school campus by members of the San Diego Chapter Youth Program Committee. Interviews will be conducted after November 20 to early December.
SELECTION: Qualifications for selection include demonstrated leadership qualities, high academic achievement, exemplary citizenship, community service, and potential to both contribute to and benefit from the experience.
NOTIFICATION: Notification of selection will be given in early December. Students will be expected to attend a brief orientation in December with at least one parent or guardian prior to conference departure.
CONFERENCE FORMAT: Students and chaperones will fly to Philadelphia and be transported to the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge campus. Four days will be spent in intensive lecture/discussion sessions with outstanding government, business, and academic leaders. This is an academically challenging experience as well as an opportunity to interact with high caliber students from other states.
WASHINGTON, D.C. TOUR: The second segment of the week-long conference includes the attendance of Congressional and Supreme Court sessions, photographs with Congressional leaders, and tours to the Library of Congress, National Archives, the Smithsonian, and numerous national monuments.
COST: The total cost for the Leadership Summit, Washington, D.C. tours, hotel, and airfare is approximately $1600. Students selected for the conference are given a scholarship from the San Diego County Chapter of FFVF that is applied to approximately half the cost of the trip. Students must make a commitment to raise the additional portion of the expense, and will be encouraged and assisted in the search for community sponsors.
